Candy Skein May '13 Colorway- Chocolate Lavender Cupcake!

May 2013 colorway- Chocolate Lavender Cupcake!

Available now through May 31st!

On May 3rd, 2013, Candy Skein officially turns 2 years old, and to celebrate I thought a cupcake colorway was in order. With gorgeous flowers bloom all around the Candy Skein studio, it only seemed appropriate to make a yummy chocolate lavender cupcake colorway! The only thing better than a chocolate lavender cupcake (is there anything better, to be honest?) is a cupcake inspired yarn!
That’s why I picked Chocolate Lavender Cupcake as the May 2013 colorway! This awesome yarn is kettle dyed in three different layers of a silvery purple, lavender and chocolate brown. It would be perfect for any project!

FO Friday 135

Happy Friday everyone! I've had a pretty uneventful week, which is sometimes a good thing. Quiet weeks of mindless work and home watching TV or movies is good for the soul, don't you think? This week is much of the same I think, which is all right for me. We've started work on our basement bar (a basement in southern California...odd, right?). Luckily it's already a complete bar, including bathroom, wet bar, and even fireplace, but my husband is fulfilling a dream of his and turning it into his very own tiki bar. I'm guessing much of this weekend will be working down there when we're not out enjoying the sunshine. It will be years until he has it complete, but the beginning stages are exciting and changes will happen fast. I'll be posting pictures along the way on my Instagram (@candyskein) if you're interested in following along. I'll try and post a few WIP pictures here too, if any of you are interested in the process.

As far as FO Friday is concerned, I do have something to finally show you. I showed you my Variance cowl on the blocking mats awhile back, but never showed you completed pictures on. I kept forgetting to get my husband to take pictures for me and each time I thought of it, it was too late in the night to get anything good. It's a lovely pattern by Lisa Mutch (Northbound Knitting) who I adore. Her patterns are gorgeous, simple and timeless IMO.

I used Hazel Knits Artisan Sock in Ruby Love.

Work in Progress Wednesday 141

Hi everyone. I hope you're having a great week and that the weather shapes up for those of you who are still getting snow in the northern part of the Midwest! Unreal!

I have a few things to show you this week, a few new things in fact.

As you may remember from Friday, I finished March, so I thought I would show you the little bit of April I've worked on, as well as how it's all laid out so far on the sampler! For those asking about cross stitch patterns last week, I'm pretty new to cross stitch and don't know too many books/mags to recommend. I buy all of my patterns from Etsy and The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery! There are amazing Etsy cross stitch patterns out there.

This is my Sweet Summer Rays shawl for the KAL we're doing. It's knit out of Candy Skein Sweet Fingering in Foil Wrapper. So far it's going great! I think I'm on line 25 of the pattern if I remember correctly.

I obviously just started this tonight. This is my first time trying out two at a time socks, so I decided to just do something basic. I'm doing a 3x2 rib using a size 0 (I didn't have a 40" cable in anything else I could find that would work) needle. I normally use a 1.5 needle so I cast on 70 stitches to allow for the smaller needle. We'll see how it goes. Next time I might just try a 32" cable. What does everyone else use when doing two at a time? The yarn is Candy Skein Yummy fingering in Tardis Tart Ombre.

That's it for me today. I hope you have a great rest of the week and I'll see you on Friday!

FO Friday 134

Hi everyone. So sorry for the delay on getting this up! I don't have much to share, but I did finish my March cross stitch for my Woodland Sampler by the Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery. Yes, I am behind on it, but I did start April right away to try and get right back on track! It looks a little crooked in the pic, as it's in the q-snap and the linen is being pulled a little.

I hope you all have a great weekend and everyone please stay safe in Boston and Texas, or everywhere for that mattern!

Work in Progress Wednesday 140

Hi everyone! I hope your week is working out to your liking. I just wanted to take a moment for those in the Boston area, or who have friends/family there, my thoughts are with you. What a terrible
 tragedy. :(

As far as WIPW, I have progress on the sweater and a new project to share:

In this picture, I was an inch away from finishing the 1x1 ribbing, and I actually did tonight after this picture was taken. The body is now bound off and tomorrow I'll hopefully have time to pick up the neck stitches and knit the collar band. I can't believe how fast this sweater has progressed. It's amazing what worsted weight yarn can do after using fingering so often. Again, I'm using Candy Skein Yummy Worsted in colorway Watermelon (though it's a slightly lighter version of the colorway. The pattern is the Ladies Classic Raglan Pullover by Jane Richmond.

This is the start of the Sweet Summer Rays Shawl by Holly Priestley . I have to increase until I hit 30 stitches between the markers and then move onto the main pattern/body of the shawl. I'm using Sweet fingering in new Candy Skein colorway Foil Wrapper. I thought the rays of the shawl would look beautiful in silver (gray). Due to the content of the yarn (50% merino/50% silk), this yarn really does look like it's silver thread. It's gorgeous! I'm making this for an ongoing KAL we have over at Holly's Ravelry group. It's ongoing until May 15th, so there's still time to join in!

That's it for me today. I hope you have a great rest of your week.

FO Friday 133

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great week and are looking forward to a nice weekend. We don't have much planned, but the weather is supposed to be pretty nice here, so I'll probably try to hang outside for a bit, gardening, playing with the dog and knitting. I'm almost very close to finishing my big order for a LYS, which I'll be delivering on Tuesday to Yarning for You in San Marcos, CA. I'm waiting for some skeins to dry, but most of them are reskeined. I see a lot of tagging in my future.

Don't forget, the Sweet Summer Rays KAL starts on Monday! If you're interested in joining along, there's still time. The KAL is going on from April 15th-May 15th. You can still purchase the pattern and yarn at a discounted price using discount code SWEETSUMMERKAL on Candyskein.com for 15% off your entire purchase, and on Ravelry for 20% off of the pattern!

I don't have a FO for today. I hope you all have a great weekend and I'll see you back here next week.

Work in Progress Wednesday 139

Hi guys! I'm so sorry for the delay but honestly I just lost track of my days. I thought of WIPW yesterday but in the context of "Man, when it's WIPW, I can show how much I've worked on my sweater!!" not, "Tomorrow is WIPW, I get to show my sweater tomorrow!" ::facepalm::

Anyway, I'm so sorry for the delay! Enjoy!

FO Friday 132

Hi everyone and happy Friday! I hope you all had a great week. Mine was insanely busy and today is much of the same, as I'm still working on the big order for a LYS! I hope to post some new colorways to Candy Skein in Yummy fingering today as well, so if you're interested, keep an eye on on Instagram/Twitter/Facebook or the Candy Skein Ravelry group.

As far as a FO, I don't have one unfortunately. I remembered about 2 minutes ago that I had to show you a blocked photo of the cowl from last week, but it's 11:25pm right now and that's the last thing I want to do! HA! You'll have to wait until next week.

As far as my sweater is going, it's flying by! I am already half way done with the hip increases. Crazy, right? I'll be done before you know it! Thanks for the great comments on it last week and the awesome words you all had for the April Candy Skein colorway, Mint Mojito. :)

That's it for me this week. Once it slows down, I still have the Stitches and needle review post to share!

Have a great weekend!

Work in Progress Wednesday 138

Happy Wednesday! I hope your week is living up to expectations. I will say, this week is a hard one for us, as my husband is back at work. We're having to get back into a routine after being able to sleep in, go to bed late and leisurely get ready to start our day. This week is busy too, as I'm dyeing yarn for a LYS as well as others for the shop.

I have had time to knit though, as you can see from the picture. This is the sweater that you saw barely started last week! I have about 5 more rows before finishing the waist shaping if you can believe that! I don't know why it's going so fast, but my guess is because I'm so used to working in fingering weight yarn (this is worsted) that the progress is flying which makes me want to work on it more! As mentioned last week, this is Candy Skein Yummy Worsted in Watermelon and pattern Ladies Classic Raglan Pullover by Jane Richmond. I love the way she writes patterns, as you fill in all of the info based on your size from charts. That way you don't have to remember which size in the bracket you're doing or highlight. So smart!

My only issue so far (if you can see it in the picture) is the way the sweater joins after knitting back and forth to get the back of the neck. This is my first pullover and I was very sloppy (not sure how I could have done it better, as I'm new to it) carrying the yarn. I'm rotating balls of yarn, since it's hand dyed. I hope it looks better after blocking, and if not, I think that's a GREAT place for a cute patch/felted needle pin, etc! ;)  If you have any tips/tricks to make this look better, let me know in comments! After I split for the arms, I am now carrying the yarn under the arm, down the side which is working MUCH better, as you can imagine.

I wanted to share with you April '13's monthly colorway, Mint Mojito! This yarn is available in Yummy fingering (as usual) now through April 30th! If interested, you can purchase it here!

That's it for me today! I hope you have a great rest of your week and I'll see you all on Friday!
